Whether it is purple or green cabbage. I am a sucker for this simple yet delicious side or even healthier snack option.

Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

1 x Cabbage (Green or Purple)

Water for boiling (broth can be used for added flavor)

Oil or Butter for drizzling after cooking (optional)

Your choice of herbs or spices to sprinkle after boiling

Instructions:

  1. Chop off and discard bottom stem. Cut head of cabbage lengthwise into 4-6 chunks or chunks can be peeled into strips depending on your preference and how many people you want to serve.
  2. Boil enough water to comfortably submerge cabbage in
  3. Submerge cabbage chunks or strips in water or broth and boil until tenders, typically 10-12 minute
  4. Drain well
  5. If you choose to, drizzle your favorite oil or butter on top
  6. If you choose, sprinkle an herb or spice on top

Note: You can also steam instead of boiling. This method would use less water but makes the cook time longer. Be sure to check your cabbage periodically until tender when steaming. I would say steam somewhere around 15-20 minutes.

I personally am simple and will not drizzle anything on it and sprinkle with pepper, but that’s just me. If I am feeling something a bit different, I will add apple cider vinegar to my water that I am boiling or steaming the cabbage in.
